Sri Lanka: Lonely Planet’s Number One for 2013.

At no big surprise to people who’ve been, Lonely Planet has just crowned Sri Lanka the top country to visit in 2013.

With their 26 year civil war more than 3 years behind them, Sri Lankans are now reveling in a new era of peace and prosperity, and the rest of the world wants to be a part of it. Showcasing island life at its finest with tropical fruit, isolated beaches and hospitable, laid back locals, Sri Lanka is beckoning all walks of traveller to stop by and pay a warm and cultured visit.

Here are a few photos taken two years ago on a journey that started and finished in the capital of Colombo, cutting through the centre of the island to Arugam Bay and following the coastline south by tuk tuk and train.
